Hey Gang, I’m out photographing a soccer match and I have a thought about the summer challenge. If you told Monet and Dali to paint the same scene the results would look very different. For those of you that aren’t going to do the challenge that is the exact reason why you should do it. One of you is a Picasso, another one of you is a Kahlo, another one is an O’Keefe, and another one of you is a Rembrandt. The point is that you all have different artistic voices and we can learn from each and every one of them. Participate in the summer challenge and show us your artistic voice. We will all be better photographers because of it.

TCCC President’s Summer Challenge

This challenge is all about how you see the world through your photography. There are many different compositions available at each site. Create images that appeal to you. Process the images in any way that you feel is appropriate. It’s important to keep in mind that this isn’t a competition.

Remember that you can go to any site, in any order, on any day or time of day. You can visit each site more than once if you feel the need to. You can use whatever camera or focal lengths that you want to. 

To make sure the we have enough images for the slideshow and for visual interest please make every effort to get to all six sites.

The Details:

Please go the following 6 sites and have fun making some great images!!

1. Stand in front of Hydraulic Hearth restaurant in Larkinville. Hydraulic Hearth is located at 716 Swan Street, it’s on the corner of Swan and Emslie.
2. Go to the water intakes near Niagara Falls and photograph by the one closer to the Grand Island Bridge. The water intakes are located next to the Niagara River and you get to them using the Niagara Scenic Parkway.
3. The Harlem Road Fishing Access and Boat Launch. This site is located on the West side of Harlem Road. There is a plaza located on the corner of Mineral Springs and Harlem. The site is just North of the plaza. By just North it’s basically the driveway next to the plaza. There is a Tops in the plaza. There is a brown sign with yellow lettering identifying the site. In the parking lot there is a set of stairs. Walk down the steps and onto the deck and shoot from there. 
4. Stand at the Northeast corner of Main Street and Rodney Avenue in Buffalo.
5. Stand on the Northwest corner of West Main Street and Central Avenue in the Village of Lancaster. Fattey Beer is on that corner.
6. In Tonawanda go to the corner of Main and Niagara streets. Sometimes Google maps calls Niagara The Empire State Trail, but when you get there, their are street signs on the corner that say Main and Niagara. Once you’re there you will see 2 stone pillars with a sign across the top that says Tonawanda’s Gateway Harbor. Walk through the pillars to the top of the steps and photograph from there. Do not go to the City of North Tonawanda!

For any of you that might be directionally challenged use the compass app on your phone. Make sure that you have access to this email when you’re going to the sites it might come in handy. The deadline for turning in the images is August 25th. Please send the images in .jpg format to martin.malicki@gmail.com You can send the images all at once or individually as you complete your visits to each site and any editing that you do. Please label your images with the site they were taken at and your name so that there are no mixups. 

This is an easy project to complete. You have over 12 weeks to get this done. The more people that do this the better the results will be for everyone.
